About Me

Sierra Smith is a lighting designer who has worked in theaters such as the McDonald Theatre at Nebraska Wesleyan University and apprenticed at the Rose Theater in Omaha, NE in the area of Electrics and Audio. Her recent credits include light designs for Red Riding Hood at The Rose Theater, Eurydice at Nebraska Wesleyan University, and Little Shop of Horrors with Theater West in Scottsbluff, NE. Sierra challenges herself each production by incorporating new methods of designing and managing in order to continue her theatrical growth. Sierra also pushes herself as a person in collaborative spaces to remain adaptable and approachable.

Sierra’s mission is to bring productions that tell important messages and new perspectives to all audiences to encourage critical thinking and education on the topics. Sierra pursues this mission by creating innovative lighting designs that connect the audience to the production with atmosphere and energy. Her designs do this by careful selection of color and exaggeration of shadows and texture. But most importantly, Sierra wants to create theater that is memorable and inspires others to share their art with their community.

Currently, Sierra is working as the Associate Lighting Supervisor at the Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, Ohio. Here she hopes to learn more about the administrative side of theater and get exposed to different ideas of lighting design through her experiences with new designers.
