About Me

Sierra Smith (she/her) is a lighting designer and theatrical electrician who has worked in theaters such as the Gordon Square Theater in Cleveland, OH and apprenticed at the Rose Theater in Omaha, NE in the area of Electrics and Audio. Her recent credits include light designs for The Body Play at Cleveland Public Theater, Arthur & Friends Make a Musical at The Rose Theater, and Eurydice at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Sierra challenges herself each production by trying new things and incorporating new methods of design to continue her theatrical growth. She also pushes herself as a person in these collaborative spaces to remain adaptable and approachable.

Sierra’s mission is to bring productions that tell important messages and new perspectives to all audiences to encourage critical thinking and education on the production's themes. She pursues this mission by creating innovative lighting designs that connect the audience to the production with atmosphere and energy. Sierra also furthers this connection to onstage with the actors through analysis of the script and characters, allowing her designs to not only represent what is physically seen onstage but also what is being felt onstage.

Most importantly though, Sierra wants to create theater that is memorable and inspires others to share their art with their community.

Currently, Sierra is working as the Associate Lighting Supervisor at the Cleveland Play House in Cleveland, Ohio. Here she hopes to learn more about the administrative side of theater and get exposed to different ideas of lighting design through her experiences with new designers.
